USA gets SIM-free Lumia 800 on February 14th

The Verge reports that the Nokia Lumia 800 will go on sale in Microsoft's US retail stores, on February 14th, as a special bundle item priced at $899. The bundle will include a SIM-free Nokia Lumia 800, Nokia Play 360 Wireless Speaker, Purity HD Stereo Headset and an in-ear Bluetooth headset. Initially the phone will not be available outside of the special bundle.

The costing of the bundle breaks down as follows:

If purchased separately the bundle would cost approximately $1159 at recommended retail prices (some savings possible by shopping around); so the bundle represents a saving of about $260. The device will not have official operator support, but will come with a Nokia support and warranty.

It is worth emphasising that this is a SIM-free handset, which explains the relatively high cost. The majority of smartphones in the US are sold, via operators, with a contract. The Nokia Lumia 710 is currently available from free on T-Mobile and the Nokia Lumia 900 will be available on AT&T shortly (date and pricing yet to be officially disclosed, but though to be mid-March and $99).
