HP's Elite X3 Windows 10 Mobile phablet leaks

Published by at

HP’s 'Falcon' project seems to have leaked ahead of MWC, revealing the 'Elite X3', a 6", QHD-screened flagship running Windows 10 Mobile. There's also (allegedly) a Snapdragon 820 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a 16MP main camera. Just like the Lumia 950 XL, the Elite X3 should have USB Type C, Continuum support and an Iris Scanner, though apparently there's a fingerprint scanner for Windows Hello as well. Take all this with a pinch of salt until next week, mind you!

From the piece at WMPU (via the Hungarian Tech2) here are the rumoured specs:

  • 5.96-inch QuadHD display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 Quad-Core SoC
  • 4 GB RAM
  • 32GB storage, microSD expansion up to 200 GB
  • USB 3.0 Type-C (USB-C)
  • Qi wireless charging
  • Iris Scanner (Windows Hello)
  • Fingerprint reader
  • Continuum support
  • 16-megapixel camera on the back
  • 8-megapixel front camera
  • Windows 10 Mobile
  • IP67 dust and water resistance
  • STD810 military MIL-rating (for 1-foot drop protection
  • 7.8 mm thick
  • Docking connector

That's all pretty high end and, if true, will give Microsoft some decent competition at the high end (there's also the Acer Jade Primo), though as ever it's all about pricing and distribution, especially if Windows 10 Mobile is ever to break out of its current niche.

I'm a little sceptical about some of the above, mind you, not least the twin biometrics, but we'll find out the truth next week at MWC, so not long to go!
