Review: Camera360

icon

There are several Camera 'replacements' for Windows Phone, even though none (as at the current OS version for most handsets) can be set as the 'default' application when you mash down the camera button - you have to launch them as 'lenses' or pick them from a Start screen shortcut. Camera Pro is geared towards the photo purist who wants to fiddle with every setting under the sun, while this, Camera360, is aimed more at someone who wants to delve more into the world of filters. If this sounds ghastly to you then move on, nothing to see. If built-in filters sound good to you then read on for my review, though note that there are still too many caveats to recommend the application in its current version.

Review: PicasaSync

icon

While Microsoft might want you to use SkyDrive for everything, including uploading your pictures, there are other services people use. One of them is Picasa, and Ahtut's client, PicasaSync, sets out to help you use Picasa with your Windows Phone.

Review: Film Closet

icon

Right then, you've all heard of IMDB, the definitive movie database for all platforms, with facts, links, quotes, trivia, the works? What room is there in the market for another movie-centric application for Windows Phone? The answer is to turn to the graphical nature of films and concentrate on the visual side of things more than facts and figures (though you get a few of those too). Film Closet is not only sumptuous, it's also perfectly optimised for Windows Phone and it's also free.

Review: CycloMeter

icon

The personal smartphone presents an interesting platform to developers to try out some ideas. Many of them have decided to try building an exercise tracker app, and CycloMeter is another addition to that list. Focusing on the cycling fans who own a Windows Phone, CycloMeter tracks your trips, lets you upload the data in a usable and portable format, and lets you race against a ghost of yourself.

Review: Buses Due

icon

Buses Due has a limited user base - you need to be in London, and you need to be looking to catch a bus. If you fit into that group, then this free application from Lama Apps is for you.

Review: HardFox SixPack

icon

Okay this is quite scary. Open up SixPack ("6Pack" in fact, but the Store presumably doesn't like apps starting with a number) and you get a gruff digitised voice welcoming you to the application. That's about as nice as it gets, because this app has one goal. To 'help you strengthen your abdominal muscles and improve their sculpture.' Yes it's a trainer in your pocket. A relentless trainer who'll do his best to get your abs into shape.

Looking for something a little different to watch? Viki opens up countless television shows, films, and music videos from around the world. And you don't have to worry about understanding the language, as Viki is built around subtitles, so you can watch and read away!

Review: Train Tickets (SNCB)

icon

Belgian company SNCB are behind 'Train Tickets', an international application that lets you buy train tickets across Europe for international travel. Unlike other applications (such as Scotrail's Windows Phone app), Train Tickets is geared towards the long distance traveller on services between European countries. Think Eurostar and Fyra rather than the 1810 to Basingstoke, and you'll be in the right area.

Review: UK Trains

icon

Let's be honest here, if you were to look at UK Trains purely on the functions offered when installed on the handset, you wouldn't be that impressed. There's no live tile support for individual stations, you can't do a manual search, and platform information is truncated. But I still like it.

Review: Baseball Live

icon

Now we're into the second week of Major League Baseball, I decided it was time to see what the Windows Store has to offer for Windows Phone. Until MLB bring their comprehensive 'At Bat' to the platform, I'm going to recommend Baseball Live.
