What do Podcasts in WP tell us? It's all about the cloud

Some great thoughts from Paul Thurrot on his "Supersite for Windows" today, mostly around how the revoultionary aspect of Windows Phone is not the interface, the live tiles, or the three screen approach by Microsoft... it's the cloud. By making Windows Phone primarily sync with the cloud and not a PC, it changes how everything should be approached, from email and contacts, to music and digital media.

His example, where it works (ie in one area, and in the US only) is podcasting.

In the old way of doing things--which is still supported for you luddites, of course, you would find and subscribe to podcasts via the Zune Marketplace in the Zune PC software and then sync these podcasts with your phone. For podcasts not represented in the Marketplace, you could use an "Add a Favorite Podcast" link in the Zune PC software to manually subscribe with an RSS feed URL...

But the new way to do this in Windows Phone 7.5 is preferred, especially if you'll never play any of the subscribed podcasts via the PC. So instead of using the Zune PC software to find and subscribe to podcasts, you can now do so directly on the phone itself.

Everyone knows how podcasting works in a Desktop client/mobile device world (ie the iTunes way!) so the new method, which does take getting used to is not a flaw, argues Thurrot, it's a feature. And we'll see more features like this as Windows Phone matures.

What do you make of this, then?
