It's not about making best use of single core CPU's, it's not about reaching a price point, it's about creating an object of lust. That's Taylor Martin's thoughts on the next steps Microsoft need to make for Windows Phone, and for him it's about getting a hero device out there to grab the attention of anyone even glancing at the mobile phone market and showing them what the platform can do.

Windows Phone doesn't need better specifications for better performance like some other platforms do. But they're fighting tooth and nail to snag a solid spot in the smartphone race. Their foot in the door is to play up specifications like everyone else. It's beyond performance for Microsoft at this point, and now that they have a fantastic manufacturer in their pocket that can and will make great hardware for them (maybe even flexible phones), they need to exploit it. Microsoft needs a showstopper, a flagship, a champion device with comparable specifications to other platforms' flagships to put them on the map. The Lumia 800 is a great start for Nokia, but we all know they can do better.

We couldn't agree more, Taylor. So while we all wait for CES, let's try to not build up our hopes too much - it may be the hero device takes a few more months!
