While this first go at a mobile client has some good features, there's still a lot missing. One of the greatest benefits that Microsoft Lync has from a PC perspective is integration with other Microsoft applications. Presence and click-to-communicate capabilities are available across the Microsoft Office suite. This type of integration is still absent from the mobile experience. The e-mail and contact interfaces on the phone don't expose presence information, so a user is forced to jump back and forth between the Lync interface and other applications on the phone.
Lync for Windows Phone gets the basic job done even though it's a bit rough at the edges. It's recommended, but Tosado is looking for more in the next version.
And I suspect the roadmap has many of these features covered. Making Windows Phone into a platform that can easily be dropped into the IT department of big businesses should be high up on Microsoft's to-do list, especially with the issues that Blackberry are having at the moment. Lync is one piece of that important jigsaw.
