361 Degrees Podcast - Will Apple follow Nokia's tech cycle descent?

Published by at

Episode 9 of the 361 Degrees podcast has Ewan MacLeod, Ben Smith, and Rafe Blandford approach a rather incendiary subject matter. Will Apple become the next Nokia?

The premise is a simple one. Nokia once rode high on the smartphone sales charts, with a dominant operating system, millions of sales per week, let alone per quarter... and it all slid away. Apple are now in a similar situation as Nokia once was, can they hold on to the top of the smartphone summit?

This week we discuss the 'technology cycle' and how the need to refresh a mobile platform every 5 years - something that is currently causing Nokia and RIM so much pain - will eventually come to Apple. It's not all bad news though… We think Apple is one of the few firms with the vision and experience to navigate this tricky process successfully.
