Fujitsu has already released one Windows Phone device, in the form of the Mango powered Fujitsu Toshiba IS12T. It is finished in brushed aluminum finish, is water and dust proof, relatively thin (10.6mm), has a 3.7 inch screen, a 1 GHz processor and a 13.2 megapixel camera. However, it is currently only available in Japan.
As noted by the Financial Times, Fujitsu is already talking to European operators:
Robert Pryke, director for Fujitsu’s mobile phone business in Europe, said the group had already spoken to operators about adopting the range. “The Japanese market has been in a silo from a technology and design perspective, but Fujitsu is bringing out a global product,” Mr Pryke said.
Ben Wood, writing on the CCS Insight blog, notes that Fujitsu's move is part of a wider strategy being pursued by Japan's government and the country's technology companies:
Large Japanese consumer electronics giants need future growth from foreign markets and the vibrant telecommunications sector has been selected to help fuel this growth.
It is likely we'll hear more about these plans at Mobile World Congress next week.
