GroupMe app updated to version 3.1

Published by at

GroupMe, a popular group messaging application, has been updated to version 3.1. Recent improvements include the ability to pin groups to the start screen, live tile notifications, support for fast app switching and an updated Metro UI. The idea behind GroupMe is to make it easier (and cheaper) to communicate with groups of people (e.g. family, friends, work group), especially when making group plans or decisions.

With the version 3 update GroupMe is now published by Microsoft. That's because GroupMe was acquired by Skype last summer, which itself was acquired by Microsoft last autumn. It's obviously taken a while to sort things out, but it's good to see that GroupMe is still under active development.

Marketplace description:

GroupMe is the best way to chat with everyone you know. It's absolutely free, whether you're talking to a group of friends, or texting with one person. Best of all, it works on nearly every phone, via push or SMS. With GroupMe, it's easy to reach anyone, anytime, anywhere.

On GroupMe, you can catch up with your family, get a group together for a night out, coordinate with co-workers, or just gossip with a few of your closest friends. Think about it like your own private Twitter, just for the people you really know. Or like a faster, better reply-all email.

GroupMe can be downloaded from the Windows Phone Marketplace for free.

More information on the most recent update is available on the GroupMe blog.

It’s back and better than ever! Today, we’re thrilled to announce a completely revamped version of our GroupMe app for Windows Phone. We’ve been working closely with our new parent company, Microsoft, on developing this app, and we think the result is the best way to chat with everyone you know from your Windows Phone.
