Send a postcard from your phone with Postino

Published by at

Postino lets you send a physical (or a virtual) postcard from your Windows Phone device. Simply choose a photo from your camera roll or album (or snap a new image from the camera app), add a message, optionally attach your signature and location, and specify a delivery address.

The obvious attraction of Postino is being able to use whatever picture you like for your postcard, but there's also big convenience factor too (no need to find a post box). Postcards can be sent either as a virtual postcard (delivered by email) or as a physical postcard (delivered by snail mail).

To send a physical postcard you'll need to buy "stamps" from Postino. This can be done though a mobile website, launched from inside the app, using PayPal. One stamp costs $1.99, five stamps costs $9.45 (5% saving) and fifteen stamps cost $26.87 (10% saving). Postcards can be sent anywhere in the world, take around 4-5 days to arrive (Europe and US) and are printed on high quality paper.

The app itself is sensibly laid out and easy to use. Photos on the front side of the postcard can be repositioned and cropped within the app, there's a link into the People Hub for email addresses (but not street addresses) and data is saved between cards (making it easier to send multiple cards). However, Postino's iOS and Android origins are apparent as there's been no real attempt to give Postino a Metro flavoured UI, which is a bit of shame, as it's surely an ideal candidate for such a makeover.

Marketplace description:

Create a real postcard and send it! We don't just mean "eCard" (although Postino can do that too). We mean "a real, physical postcard". That's right, we print your postcards on super high-quality paper and send them worldwide in few days. How cool is that?

Can you imagine the surprise of your friends and family when they receive your postcard in the mailbox, with yourself in the photo, your message and your signature? It's even cheaper than most normal postcards+stamps you buy in the local stores, without the hassle!

Postino can be downloaded for free from the Windows Phone Marketplace.
