Microsoft update Bing Translator to v2.0

With two key features for translating, the updated Bing Translator app will be a cute little addition for many, but a vital piece of software for others. It's been updated to version 2, and is now available as a free download from the Windows Marketplace.

First up is the text translation tool, which lets you capture an image (say of a street sign, or a menu), and the text will be captured, parsed, and translated into the target language for you. The second is a text to speech engine, helping you communicate with speakers of other languages.

It can also do all this offline, with language packs available to download (Spanish, French, Italian, German and simplified Chinese) and install to your smartphone when you do have connectivity. Given the costs of data while roaming internationally, this is a feature I am very glad to see.

Available as a free download, it's another welcome tool for the traveller.
