Microsoft partners with Bit.ly for sdrv.ms shortening

We reported in April that Microsoft was offering a short URL for sharing SkyDrive files on Twitter. This domain has now been expanded more sharing methods, including email links and sharing images from Windows Phone 7 devices to Twitter. Microsoft have also partnered with Bit.ly for handling this domain, which brings in all the benefits of that service.

Adding a "+" sign to the end of the domain brings up an analytics page, allowing you to see the link's popularity, and adding ".qrcode" instead brings up a QR Code for the URL, which all smartphones have apps for, but Windows Phone 7 has native support.

Microsoft is also supporting Facebook's OpenGraph protocol so that links shared there will be properly previded in users' news feed.

As mentioned above, images shared from your Windows Phone 7 device to Twitter will now feature the sdrv.ms domain. However, Twitter still does not support this URL so don't expect to see SkyDrive thumbnails on Twitter.com or other third party apps.
