Mehdoh Twitter client updated to version 2.0

Published by at

Mehdoh, a powerful and feature rich Twitter client for Windows Phone, has been updated to version 2.0. New features include a customisable home screen, an optional photo view timeline, support for streaming (real time updates), support for multiple accounts, improved performance, and much more.

By default the app's opening screen (referred to as the home screen_ has views (columns) for timeline, mentions and messages, but additional views can be added thanks to the powerful 'customise home screen' feature. 'Photo view', a specialised Twitter timeline showing only photos, will show a thumbnail grid, with the full photo a single tap away. Other views that can be added include favourites, retweets of you, your retweets, retweets (by users you follow), twitter lists, and new followers. This level of customisation should keep even the more demanding Twitter user happy, but it's also good to see the default set up kept relatively simple.

An additional power user feature is support for streaming, although, currently, this can only be used when a WiFi connection is available. Streaming means that the tweet timeline is updated in real time (rather than when you press the refresh button). Streaming can be enabled from the settings menu, where you will also find options to enable auto scroll (when streaming updates), sound alerts on mentions, and to leave the screen on. This allows the app to act like a twitter wall, keeping pace with tweets as they come in.

It's worth stressing that streaming will drain your battery more quickly than manual updates, but this may be worthwhile if you're following a live event, or sitting at your desk (with the phone plugged in) and using the app as a companion twitter screen.

Also new in Mehdoh 2.0 is support for multiple accounts; once you have configured a second twitter account it will show up in the 'customise home screen' configuration screen, allowing you to add additional columns (timeline, replies, messages and so on), for that account, to the app's home screen. The advantage of Mehdoh's approach is everything, from multiple accounts, is available in a single pivot, but the downside is that it can be unwieldy if you are using more than three Twitter accounts.

Other new features in Mehdoh 2.0 include local search (tweets near your current location), Instagram integration (view and comment on photos), customisation options for Live Tiles, support for Twitter Lists (add/ remove user, shows other people's lists), an improved tile based settings UI, and more.
