In addition to the Windows Phone version of the game, there is a web (Facebook) version of the game. This means it's not necessary for friends to install the game, or even have a Windows Phone device to take up a challenge.
The game has a couple of features that aim to improve the basic game play. Automatic player match up use a "TrueSkill" ranking system that tracks your skill level relative to other players. This means you should always be playing someone of roughly the same ability. A board leveling feature that encourages players to use all of the board by adding new bonus tiles in lightly used areas, which aims to encourage rapid play and decreased the strategic positioning element of the original game.
Multiple games can be played at the same time and every game has an interactive history that lets you review all of the moves for the game. Optional push notifications and a background agent system automatically alert you when it is your turn to place tiles and Live Tile support lets you see, at a glance, how many games are waiting for your input. Tapping on the Live Tile drops you straight into the game's dashboard where you can see all of your most recent game activity at a glance.
Wordnom joins Wordfeud and Words by Post as scrabble like games that are available for Windows Phone. However, there's still no sign of a Windows Phone version of Zynga's Words with Friends, which remains the most popular of the scrabble clones on Facebook.
Wordnom can be downloaded from the Windows Phone Marketplace; a free tial is available with the full version costing £2.29 / €2.99 $2.99.
