Battleship sails on to Xbox Live

This week's Xbox Live game is Battleship, a game from EA that draws its inspiration from the classic board game. It's a faithful reproduction of the game with the two well known phases: fleet deployment and and weapons targeting. The latter is complete with virtual red and white pegs, although in this version of the game there's no danger of losing them down the back of the sofa.

As you would expect there's a classic mode, with players taking turns to fire a single shot at each other, but there's also salvo mode, which lets you fire one shot from each of you ships per turn, and super weapon mode, which adds additional weapon types. Additional super weapons can be unlocked by playing the game and all three modes have cut scene animations that show weapons being fired, whether they hit a ship and, if applicable, the ship sinking.

The game includes multiplayer support with the option for "pass n' play", where player take a turn and then pass the device on to the other player and an Xbox Live multiplayer mode, where you can challenge and play against friends by using their Xbox Live gamer tag.
