Voddler is the latest addition to Nokia's line up of exclusive apps for its Lumia Windows Phone devices. The service, which is available to users in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Spain, provides an easy way to rent and download / stream movies and television series to your computer or mobile devices.

Voddler offers both free ad-supported content and paid for rental content, mixing classic movies and TV with the latest Hollywood blockbusters. The service currently has 2539 movies, 1238 tv episodes and 386 documentaries available.

The Windows Phone app has a slick Metro UI making it easy to browse the available content, start a video stream or buy a movie rental. The top level panorama offers information about your account and lists available content. Every piece of content gets its own pivot with info, synopsis, photos and reviews pages making it easy to decide what you want to watch.

Unique to the Windows Phone version Voddler is "movie night" functionality. This allows you to set up group watching with friends and family to create a shared social experience, even when you're not in the same physical location. The app will synchronize your viewing regardless of whether you're watching online or offline, so that everyone in the group starts watching the movie at the same time. Movie nights can be set up from the movie detail screen and the date and time of upcoming "movie nights" are automatically shown on the opening screen of the application.

To help encourage people to try out the movie night functionality Voddler and Nokia are offering two free movie night tickets to anyone who downloads the app. Those using Voddler from their Lumia devices will also get four months of Voddler plus free (worth about £7 per month). Voddler plus is a premium subscription that removes adverts played before free titles, reduces the cost of movie rental and increases the number of free titles available.

Voddler can be downloaded from the Nokia collection of the Windows Phone Marketplace for free. The app and service is currently only available in Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Spain. Voddler expects to expand its service to other European countries later this year.
