While it might not have the complexity of the London Underground, the San Francisco Bay's BART (Bay Are Rapid Transport system) has a rather cool application to help you plan your routes, look out for any disruptions on the five lines, and provide live timing for the trains in the system.

Your favourite stations can be added as tiles to your start screen (I suspect home and work stations would be the obvious choice of many users), as well as any of the five lines that make up the system.

The app is fully functional for a five day trial, and then a number of the advanced features are only available if you buy the application - that's enough to see how you get on with a Monday - Friday commute and if it works, the full version is only 99 cents from developer Mohammed Adenwala.
