Collect the Little Acorns with this week's Xbox Live release

Published by at

This week's Xbox Live release is Little Acorns, from Chillingo and Electronic Arts. Deep in the forest, your family of squirrels have had all their acorns stolen by the beasts of the foliage, and as head of the family (Mr Nibbles!), it's up to you to head out into the trees and branches to gather enough acorns to get through the winter.

Little Acorns

A traditional 2-D platformer (with a side on view), Little Acorns uses three virtual buttons on the touch screen for left/right/jump, and that's it. Classic controls, no tweaks to use the accelerometers, all you have to do is collect all the acorns on the screen. This is old school gaming.

But it's old school with an angular cartoon look that's pleasing on the eye, that gives you multiple challenges per level (be it a speed run, collecting bonus fruit after all the acorns are collected, kill all the insects by jumping on their heads, etc), and graphcis are smooth and fluid, even when the screen is very busy. I'm enjoying it so far!

Little Acorns

  • Little Acorns features 80 cleverly designed levels to explore! Spread out over 4 seasons and 4 years, you'll be hunting nuts for hours on end!
  • Fluid, simple platforming controls that mean players of all skills can enjoy this captivating adventure. With classic platformer gameplay, mixed with a modern visual style, you'd be nuts not to love it.
  • Collect power-ups to save time and grab high scores including a time stopping clock and an invulnerability crash helmet. Dodge or defeat a variety of enemies including dopey caterpillars and hanging spiders on your way to collecting all the acorns and fruit in the game!

As always we'll take some time to try the game out and get back to you next week with a full review. In the meantime, you can pick up your copy of the trial from the Windows Marketplace, via the AAWP App Directory.
