Forty3Degrees' RSS reader for Windows Phone, Feed Me, has been updated to version 2.0 with a number of important changes and additions, including support for Google Reader and podcast download. The code has also been tweaked to support fast app switching and allowing Feed Me to integrate with the music+video hub.

Here are the changes, via the app directory listing:

  • Added a full two-way sync with Google Reader
  • Added support for downloading and listening to podcasts when the app is no longer running
  • Added music + video hub integration
  • Added support for fast app-switching
  • Keyword highlighting for articles
  • Switched to SQL for a more reliable and faster cache
  • Added support for top-level feeds
  • Added 'all' and 'unread' system groups (available in the appearance settings)
  • Added 12 new Live Tile designs (also available in older versions)
  • Highlight articles with certain keywords
  • Many other performance and UI improvements

Probably the most important of those is the ability to sync with Google Reader. Smartphone handsets are no longer used in isolation, so being able to read an article on your phone and have it marked as read when you sit down with your laptop, is a pretty important concern.

It will be interesting to see how the addition of podcasting is handled - we'll have a closer look at this on All About Windows Phone and let you know.

For now, Feed Me is available both as a paid-for download ($1.99 / £1.49) or in an ad-supported version through the AAWP App Directory.
