The shopping app Ocado On The Go is the latest addition to the Nokia collection section of the Marketplace today (UK only). Although the app has been available for all Windows Phone devices (since November 2011), it stands out as one of the best Windows Phone app we've seen, so it's worth highlighting for those who don't know about it. 

Ocado On The Go is a superby implemented and feature rich app. It lets you browse through thousands of grocery items, add them to a virtual trolley, and organise delivery for a specified one hour time slot. In addition to comprehensive browsing by categories, grocery items can be searched for by keyword, of found by scanning a bar code using your phone's built in camera. Existing orders can be modified, and delivery slots adjusted from within the app itself, an example of the great user experience offered by Ocado On The Go.

The app also ties in seamlessly with the ocado.com website, seamlessly syncing order, meaning you can start a shop on your phone, and then complete it on the website. 

The catalogue of 22,000 products is stored on your phone, which means it possible to keep shopping even if no data signal is available. That's particularly useful for commuters on trains, the group which consumer research shows is one of the heaviest users of apps in this category. Other key shopping features include the ability to view user created shopping lists; automatically created lists of favourite, recently bought and recommended items; and an instant shop feature (automatically put regular items into your trolley).

The Ocado app is available for a number of other platforms, and while a similar visual identity is maintained across all of the apps, each version is also tweaked for its host platform. In the Windows Phone version you'll see familiar standard graphics, date pickers, and the same chromeless and typographic centric design language that's the hallmark of the platform.
