Create your own fashion Stylebook with StyleSaint

StyleSaint, a start-up operating in the fashion vertical, has released an official Windows Phone app. StyleSaint, which can be described as a fashion focused Pinterest, allows users to collate images into Stylebooks (the non-fashion conscious might describe these as scrapbooks), which can then be shared via social media. The app has been developed in partnership with Nokia, which means it is, for the time being, exclusive to Lumia devices.

The Windows Phone app lets you view both editor curated and  user created Stylebooks. These take the form of a series of images, usually linked around a given topic or person (e.g. Diane Kruger, Alexa Chung, Top Knots and Braids). Stylebooks can be shared via social networks, loved (favourited), and commented on. Individual images can also be saved (teared) for later use.

In addition to the Stylebooks there are also tear sheets, collections of images intended to act as prompts for fashion inspiration. As with Stylebooks tear sheets can be shared, loved and saved for later usage.

StyleSaint note that the content in the app will be regularly updated:

Three times a week, the kickass fashion obsessed team at StyleSaint is pumping out golden nuggets of content aimed at helping you get dressed in the morning. Distilling style from the runway to the street, our go-to guides on how to style the latest trends, lessons in pairing, and expert DIY tutorials prove again and again that StyleSaint is the ultimate source for your fashion fix. Don’t let these useful gems get lost on you — save our StyleBooks to your personal profile so that you can reference them again and again.

Users can also create their own Stylebooks, based on both their own images and those saved from tear sheets and other Stylebooks. As StyleSaint explain the idea is to "be your own editor in chief", making a "collection of inspiring imagery that defines who you are and what you’re feeling in a given moment, as expressed in a stunning digital fashion magazine".

What's not immediately obvious from the app is that StyleSaint is planning to analyse the collective data from the user submitted Stylebooks for trends, which will then be used as the inspiration to create a lines of clothing, accessories and other fashion items. It's an intriguing prospect, and we would expect the app to receive an update in the future that will let users buy such items directly from their phone.

As you might expect from a fashion focused app, the design of StyleSaint app is first rate, drawing on both the house style of the originating website and the look and feel of the Windows Phone platform.

If we're honest the StyleSaint app may not be of interest to all our readers, but there is one element of its implementation that we would like to see more widely adopted. When you first open the app you are encourage to walk through a set of five screens which give a basic introduction to the app and how to use it. This helps get over the initial learning curve that's present in almost any app, and allows for greater detail and a more interactive approach than any app store description.
