Get your gaming advice on screen with the updated GameFAQS client

If you're looking for a bit of a helping hand with a modern game, you'll probably be familiar with GameFAQS, a huge online resource managed by CBS Interactive. One of the unofficial Windows Phone clients for Gamefaqs has picked up an update with some new UI tweaks, giving you access to help and advice on your smartphone.

What I like is that app is more than a simple viewer of the website content. The main benefit to me is the ability to save any FAQ or Guide to your phone so you can read it offline. Even though home consoles will generally be in good areas of Wi-fi, it's far faster to have the guides you consult already on your smartphone.

GameFAQS guides are generally formatted as 80 column wide plain text files, which are just about readable in portrait mode on a Windows Phone handset, but are easily read in portrait mode. Being plain text means they might not look brilliant, but they are clear and legible when you're in the middle of the firefight on Call of Duty, or balancing on the top of a platform in Super Mario Bros 27.
