Moo launches NFC business cards

NFC is a feature appearing on Nokia and Samsung phones for the past year; and forthcoming HTC Windows Phone 8 devices. The constant criticism of NFC is that there's nothing to use it with, which presents something of a chicken and egg problem. Well, one more practical use has just appeared courtesy of business card company, Moo. The company has been around since 2006 and have been working on ways to make the boring old business card that bit more interesting.



Yesterday Moo announced that it will be offering rewritable NFC chips embedded in their cards. This means that someone can instantly and, more importantly, accurately save your details by simply touching the card to the back of their NFC equipped phone. While NFC payments are still on a painfully slow take off, this is a novel way of sharing your details with others.

This isn't the first time that contact details have been stored on a business card. Some people, myself included, have QR Codes printed on their business cards. This is arguably a safer solution as every phone has a camera and so can perform optical scanning. Still though, having NFC enabled business cards certainly makes a statement.

Moo said on its blog that it was giving away 150,000 NFC business cards. However, the page it links to only has a form for you to enter your email address to be notified when there's more NFC card news.
