gMaps Pro gets Google Maps public transit routing

Published by at

gMaps Pro, the unofficial Google Maps client for Windows Phone, has had a big update, to v1.26, bringing public transit routing, an improved 'driver mode' (though obviously stopping short of real time voice navigation), user interface tweaks and a new compass engine. An essential install for non-Nokia Windows Phones, I think...

Here's the changelog for v1.26:

  • Public Transit
  • Improved driver mode:- separate speed indicator, start/stop/reroute buttons, partially visible route line fix, reset speed if stopped, stop navigation if destination reached
  • Alternative routes
  • Zoom out on “two finger double tap” gesture
  • New compass engine

Nokia's Drive/Maps/Public Transport suite on the Lumia smartphones is quite a bit more comprehensive, but it's handy to have the might of Google's data sets available in Windows Phone, including a limited amount of Google StreetView too, as shown below. You can grab (or buy outright) gMaps Pro here in the AAWP software directory.
