Microsoft has announced that consumers can pre-order the upgrade DVD for Windows 8 Pro. Also, new laptops and tablets with Windows 8 built-in are available to order too, such as the Samsung Ativ Smart PC, HP Envy x2 and Dell XPS 10. The upgrade DVD will cost 69.99 USD / 52.00 GBP (at today's exchange rates, including 20% UK VAT). However, those willing to wait until the official release day, October 26th, will be able to upgrade via download for 39.99 USD or 29.74 UKP (at today's exchange rates, including 20% UK VAT). 

While not directly related to Windows Phone, the advent of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 means that the long-discussed shared ecosystem takes a step closer to fruition. With the shared core of Windows, we can expect to see more Windows Phone apps to become available for upcoming laptops and and tablets, thus making integration between devices classes much more likely.

For those who have recently purchased a Windows 7 PC, Microsoft stated:

If you purchase (or have purchased) an eligible Windows 7 PC anytime between June 2, 2012 and January 31, 2013 you will be able to purchase an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for only $14.99 USD ERP** (U.S.) which will be redeemable starting October 26th.
