Mechanically stabilising video capture with the 'iStabilizer'

One much-touted feature of the Nokia Lumia 920 is its optical image stabilisation, with one of the main uses being making handheld video capture smoother. Now, wouldn't it be nice to have some kind of mechanical image stabilisation for other smartphones? Perhaps for the Nokia 808 PureView or C7 or the Lumia 800 or HTC Radar (or whatever)? Keen reader Brian from Florida has put up two videos, embedded below, one made with a Nokia 808 as-is and one made with the phone mounted in the $100 iStabilizer accessory. Quite a difference, as you'll see. Anyone else tried this or a similar accessory?

Leaving aside whether you'd want to carry around an accessory this large, the results are certainly interesting. First, the raw footage from (in this case) the Nokia 808 (but it could be any smartphone camera), a short walk on uneven grass:

Then here's the same short walk, same conditions, but with the phone mounted in the iStabilizer (found in Amazon UK), Brian used this variant from Amazon USA.

Comments welcome! Does the difference make the accessory worth considering, do you think?
