Bing and Windows Phone 8

Over on the official Bing blog, the team are taking about Microsoft's search engine and how it will integrate with Windows Phone 8. The majority of the blog post confirms that the features we currently have will make the jump to Windows Phone 8, but also notes the personalised search ('For You') and the Bing homepage option for your lock screen.

An experience that’s personal to you: New to Windows Phone 8, For You offers personalized recommendations for deals, restaurants, music, videos and more, based on a person’s location, previous searches and recommendations from their Facebook friends.

Take the Bing Homepage with you: Now you can take the iconic Bing Homepage with you. The lock screen image on Windows Phone 8 automatically retrieves the image of the day so you have something fresh, beautiful and dynamic to look forward to at the start of everyday.

Bing on Windows Phone 8

Bing is more than the search button behind the soft key (for example, Bing powers the search engine in the Windows Store), and this article is a nice reminder of how much the brand contributes to the Windows Phone experience. Local Scout is probably the most unsung feature of Bing, but it's one that I have continued to find useful while out and about either at home or during my travels.

It's also worth pointing out that searching for something using Bing will also bring up local results, relevant third party applications you can download, and recommendations from Facebook friends.

Bing does a lot and it's more than a simple web search box. You can read all about Bing on Windows Phone 8 on their blog post.
