Mashable's ten days with the Lumia 920

Mashable's Christina Warren has decided to follow the hashtag advice and made the #switch to the Lumia 920 for ten days. Having previously worked at 'The Unofficial Apple Weblog' she's a big iPhone fan, so this is going to be an interesting set of articles. After her first day she talks about setting up accounts and email on the smartphone, and the 'dealbreaker' of a password management app.

Before I could start using the phone in earnest, I needed to get my sensitive and important data imported first. I was worried this would be a complex process, but it turns out, it just took some time. First, I needed to make sure I could get a working authenticator app to work with my various accounts that require two-factor authentication (for Google Apps, Last Pass, Dropbox). That was easy enough to do and the AuthenticatorG app in the Windows Marketplace worked just fine.

Mashable - Lumia 920 or iPhone 5?

Some are arguing in the comments that rather than try and crowbar the iOS experience into the Lumia, Warren should simply embrace the entire Microsoft ecosystem from the second the box was opened. Certainly that's what Microsoft would hope for, but in the real world people are going to be doing direct comparisons of the two browsers, are gong to want to keep using established work flow patterns with Dropbox, and get their address book into the handset without having to retype everything.

At the same time though Warren is going to have to accept some of the premise of Windows Phone to get the most out of the platform. Hopefully natural curiosity will kick in as she uses the smartphone. It's going to be interesting to see how Warren balances between 100% commitment to the Microsoft way and trying to push on with the iOS way, especially as its more than likely that she'll be going back to the iPhone after the ten day project.
