Sonic CD powers into contention on Xbox Live

Published by at

Speeding into the Xbox Live catalogue today is Sonic CD, an 'enhanced' port of the 1993 Sega release for the CD-Rom enabled MegaDrive/Genesis consoles.Ass well as exploring the levels as presented to you in the game, Sonic can gain the ability to travel in time on each level, either into the past, or forward to two alternative futures (either 'good' or 'bad' times!).

We've been expecting a Sonic Xbox Live release since the summer, but this is not the cross-platform game we've been waiting for. Sonic 4 Episode 2 remains on the 'missing, presumed having a good time' list.

From the directory listing:

In order to put an end to Dr. Eggman’s nefarious schemes, Sonic must use the power of Little Planet to travel through time; breaking Dr. Eggman’s hold over the future by destroying his machines in the past and recovering the missing Time Stones!

Now featuring 16:9 widescreen, achievements, leaderboards and both the US and Japanese soundtracks, experience the adventure through time that introduced the world to Amy Rose and Eggman’s most evil creation, Metal Sonic.

Still, what we have here is a classic Sonic game, and after a few minutes playing with the trial version, it does feel like a Sonic game, with the spikey hedgehog reacting in a predictable way. The controller is a virtual stick on the touchscreen, along with a jump button, and that might be the only weak part of the game. We'll be spending some time with Sonic as he battles Eggman before giving it the full review treatment.

For now, you can grab the trial version from the usual online locations, including our app directory
