ARPU Highest with Windows Phone gamers

Some fascinating numbers reported today by GamesIndustry. The video game research group EEDar has been examining the amount of money that mobile gamers spend. In the $5-$25 and $25-$50 category, Windows Phone users create more revenue per user than both iOS and Android players.

GamesIndustry's James Brightman writes:

According to data from EEDAR's 2012 Mobile Syndicated Reports, sent to GamesIndustry International, Windows smartphone users "consistently outspend their peers" with almost 10 percent of Windows gamers classified as "Whales" (those who spend more than $25 a month) compared to just four percent on both iOS and Android.

Of course there are very many factors that can affect the income of a developer, such as the volume of users on a platform, how many can be counted on to download an application, and the support for mobile display advertising, in-app purchasing, and other monetisation options.

While it's not a level playing field for some areas of Windows Phone, it's nice to hear that the gamers on Windows phone are fair and rewarding developers for their efforts.
