Carphone Warehouse in the UK are offering the Nokia Lumia 820 for £379.95 SIM free. It is also continuing to offer the device on O2 and Vodafone for free, when taken with a £25 per month two year contract. In either case there is curently a special offer that means all Lumia 820 orders come with a free wireless charging pad and a free Windows 8 Pro PC Upgrade license. Combined these extras have a value of around £100.

For the £25 per month contract the total cost of ownership is £600, which is reasonable value, though the contracts in question only come with 250MB of data, which is a little on the low side for a smartphone. In practise, many people will be looking at a £31 per month contract in order to get a reasonable data and calling allowance, adding an extra £144 to the total cost of ownership.

The SIM free pricing (£380) is also available from a number of other online retailers, including Amazon, but they do not, currently, have the same double special offer as Carphone Warehouse, though some do have the free wireless charging pad offer.
