With each update Nokia Drive on Windows Phone is getting closer to its feature-rich and mature sister version on Symbian. These route optimisation settings were one of the more notable omissions. They are most useful to regular drivers, or "power" sat-nav users, but they're also useful for the more occasional users. Some people prefer not to use motorways and toll roads, and others may want to avoid lengthy waiting times for ferries.
The screenshot below offers an illustration of the way the routing can be changed by these settings. On a drive from Sussex to Cambridge the standard route is to go around the M25 (motorway), across the Dartford crossing (toll bridge). However, Nokia Drive will offer an alternative route through central London, if motorways and toll roads are excluded. Not surprisingly this will take significantly more time to complete.
The updated version of Nokia Drive can be downloaded from the Nokia collection in the Windows Phone Store. If you already have the app installed you will be automatically notified about the update via the Downloads section of the Store app.
