Nokia Lumia 720 and 520 press images leak ahead of MWC

Published by at

Press images for the Nokia Lumia 520 and Lumia 720, which are expected to be announced in a few days at Mobile World Congrees, have been leaked by the @evleaks on Twitter. The images show handsets that have design cues similar to the Nokia Lumia 820.

As we noted on the last episode AAWP Insight Podcast lower cost phones filling the obvious gaps in the current Windows Phone 8 Lumia lineup (5-series and 7-series) were always the most likely candidates for Nokia's smartphone device announcements at Mobile World Congress. They are likely to be announced along side a number of Asha (Series 40) devices at Nokia's press conference, which takes place on Monday 25th at 7:30 (GMT).

The images also show the Nokia Maps Live Tile on both devices with the name HERE Maps, a rebranding that would bring the Windows Phone app in live with the branding for Nokia's wider location products and services.

While the leaked images are, in our judgement, almost certainly genuine they should be treated as unconfirmed until the formal launch announcement is made by Nokia next week.

Pricing

A key question of interest around the new devices is the exact pricing level. The Nokia Lumia 720 should be somewhere between the Nokia Lumia 620 (€190) and the Nokia 820 ((€390), while the Nokia Lumia 520 will almost certainly become the cheapest Windows Phone 8 device in Nokia's lineup.

The Windows Phone 7.5 powered Nokia Lumia 710 and Lumia 510 handsets were priced at €270 and €150 respectively. Their index-successors should have roughly the same price points, but we'll have to wait until Monday for exact launch prices.
