HTC not giving up on Windows Phone in 2013

Published by at

Although they've just announced their flagship Android device in the 'One', HTC have reiterated their plans at MWC to support Windows Phone 8 in 2013. Speaking to CNet's Aloysius Low, Vice President Tai Ito noted they are "...fully committed to our Windows Phone business. We do have good collaboration with Microsoft for a future release this year."

In smartphone terms, the release of the HTC 8X and 8S for Windows Phone, and the HTC One for Android are timed to be relatively close together, albeit targeting different events (the WP8 launch, and the run-up to MWC), so it's likely that the WP and Android teams inside HTC are working alongside each other, but as distinct units. It would make sense for the 8S and 8X to be separated by a mid-tier device in WP at some point, with spec improvements to be available by the end of the year.

Perhaps the future release is going to be a handset between the 8X and the 8S (so place your bets on HTC 8T, 8U, 8V or 8W). I just hope that HTC make sure the handset has at least 8GB of internal storage.
