Create machine marvels in building-physics puzzle game Physworks

Physworks is a fun physics based building-puzzle game from indie developer Syncaidius (James Yarwood). In the game you place (builld) various objects on to a tile-based game field with the objective of creating an over-the-top machine, so as to achieve certain targets (destroying a crate, getting from A to B) by moving a ball (or balls) through the playing field.

Early levels require little more than placing objects (e.g. ramps) in the right place, but as things progress more and more building blocks are introduced (wiring and logic gates) that can be used to control more advanced elements (e.g. electro-repulsors). You'll breeze through the early levels in a handful of seconds, but later levels will require more time, and more than a little head scratching.

This just-right learning curve is typical of the attention to detail in the game. Another example of this is the very handy in-game info tool dialog that tells you everything you need to know about the building objects, something that's especially useful as the game start to become more complex in later levels.

It's clear a huge amount of effort has gone into creating this game, and there's a lot more depth and complexity than you might expect. This might put off some casual gamers, but it's real treat for fans of the physics-based puzzle game genre.

Physworks was recently updated to version 1.2 adding new levels, an improved tutorial system, and stability improvements. The game now includes over 70 levels, spread across 8 chapters, and more than 60 unlockable objects. These objects are necessary to complete some of the later levels and you can also use them in the game's sandbox mode (a quasi create-your-own-level feature).

Windows Phone Store description:
