Nokia's HERE location suite apps get bug fix updates on Windows Phone 8

Published by at

Today Nokia's HERE Maps, HERE Drive+, HERE Transit, and HERE City Lens al received minor updates. The updates, described in the apps' Windows Phone Store description as "bug fixes", do not add any features, but rather improve the overall performance and stability of the main components of Nokia's suite of location apps on Windows Phone 8.

Today's updates continue a pattern of more frequent updates for Nokia's own apps, something that has become more apparent in the last six months. This increased cadence of updates is a result of a move of Nokia's app and service development teams to an agile-like process that has allowed for a more rapid development and release cycle. Previously Nokia updated its location apps relatively slowly, usually on a six monthly cycle.

The move to the more frequent release cycle benefits consumers in that bug fixes and feature improvements are delivered more quickly, but it is also in keeping with Nokia's CEO, Stephen Elop, promise to move the company "at a faster clock speed".

While today updates are only minor, a more significant update should arrive in the coming weeks in the form of the addition of Nokia's Live Sight augmented reality technology to the HERE Maps app. This feature, which was demonstrated at MWC in late February, will add an additional map view to the app and reflects the increasing integration of the HERE apps suite.

The current versions of the HERE location suite of apps are:

  • HERE Maps - 3.2.315.8
  • HERE Drive+ - 2.2.2164.8
  • HERE Transit - 3.5.1034.0
  • HERE City Lens - 2.2.18.297

All the apps can be downloaded from the Nokia collection in the Windows Phone Store. If you have already installed the app, you will be prompted to download the updated via the updates section of the built in Store app.
