Seek words in Ruzzle's grid on Windows Phone 8

Published by at

Ruzzle, a word puzzle game in the style of Boggle that is popular on Android and iOS, is now available for Windows Phone 8. In the game you look for words made up from the letter tiles in a four-by-four grid. Words are formed by tracing your finger from one adjacent tile to another (e.g. C-A-T). The score for each word is determined by the letters used and the overall length of the word. There are also scrabble like multipliers (e.g. double letter score), which are the essential ingredient to really impressive scores.

Windows Phone already has the popular Wordament in this genre, but Ruzzle has a more traditional asynchronous one-on-one match-up system, rather than Wordament's synchronous massively multiplayer game play approach. Match-ups, which consist of three two-minute rounds, can be made automatically, or you can challenge your friends to a game. Arguably this system makes the social element of the game, which is enabled via integration with Facebook and Twitter, more accessible to the average player.

Ruzzle has good international language support. The game currently supports English, Danish, Norwegian, French, German, Dutch, Swedish, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish and Italian, so there's a good chance you'll be able to play in your native tongue.

Ruzzle is a lot of fun to play and the Windows Phone version has been well implemented with good graphics, animations and chirpy sound effects. Also impressive is that the attention to detail extends beyond the basic word-finding game play. After a round is over it's easy to see what words you (and your opponent found), but you can also see the words you missed and a statistical breakdown of the scoring.

Windows Phone Store description:

Ruzzle is a fun and fast-paced word game where you can challenge your friends or allow an opponent to be chosen randomly. Who can find the most words in two minutes?

Find as many words as possible on a board by swiping your finger across the screen. The letters may form words as long as they are connected to each other. Nice audio and animations make it even more fun to play.

Ruzzle can be downloaded from the Windows Phone Store. The game cost £2.29 / $2.99 / €2.99, no trial is available. However, Windows Phone Italy say that the development team is planning to make an ad-supported / freemium version, which will be free to download, available in the coming weeks.
