Jump through the forests with Chimpact

Published by at

It's been a while since I've come across a really good 'vertical' platformer game. That game is Chimpact, where you play a sprightly chimpanzee ready to climb the trees of the rain forest, collecting bananas and avoiding spiders as you race to get to your home on the top of the canopy

While it's not quite a true platformer with left/right/jump controls, it's more suited to a mobile touchscreen environment. When you are ready to make a jump, you pull back from your chimp, set the angle, and let go to leap into the air, bouncing off three trunks, through tunnels, into bananas, and on to the next bouncy leaf to do it all again.

Who said Angry Birds? You might think that, I couldn't possibly comment.

Recently updated to v1.4, I think the developers have made a smart decision in making their trial levels not level the first level of the adventure mode, but the fifth level, which has more complexity and is more representative of the gameplay. Other features include:

  • Simple, one-touch gameplay
  • Four stunningly lush worlds with 12 levels each
  • Two complete game modes to beat: Gem Quest and Totem Trail
  • 240 challenge medallions to earn
  • Eight abilities to earn and three chimps to unlock
  • Beautiful environments and cute characters

And the ambient noise and music is only missing some David Attenborough voice-over to make it sound just right.

You can pick up the trial copy, or buy the full version, from the Windows Store.
