Listen to the suburbs with Music Scene

Published by at

Music Scene is an interesting browsing tool, taking the geo-location capabilities of your smartphone, and showing you around an area and where bands and musicians grew up. It might not be fully formed, but it's a nice little exploration tool, with some nice integration to Nokia's Music app on Windows Phone.

Opening up Music Scene, and you get the familiar Windows Phone map, and you can pinch and zoom to any location, or tap the location menu button to show your local area.

The app also works well with Nokia Music, allowing you to start listening to mixes 'seeded' by an artist you have found on the map, and in turn use the Nokia Music database to learn a little more about them.

To be fair, Music Scene is more a curiosity than a professional tool, but it has improved over time, with a search bar now able to answer the 'reverse' question of looking up an artist's location. Music Scene answers 'the musical location question' well, but it never really answers the question of why this would be useful (your thoughts are more than welcome in the comments).

What it does do, it does well. Worth a look, especially if you are a big music fan. You can download your copy of Music Scene from the Windows Store now.
