The official Untappd app is now available for Windows Phone allowing you to find better beer with you Nokia Lumia, HTC, or Samsung smartphone. Untappd is a social discovery and check-in service built for those enjoy beer. It works in a similar way to Foursquare and Facebook Places, but rather that checking into a place, the emphasis is checking into a particular beer (though location information is also shared), rating it, sharing pictures, and earning badges as you do so.

This check-in side of Untappd is fun, but arguably the real value for the seasoned beer drinker is in the resultant social sharing and discovery that comes with it. The app lets you see what beers are trending (popular) and enables you to discover new beers and bars near your location (and see how they have been rated). It will also generate personalised recommendations based on the tastes of you and your friends.

Untappd can optionally share check-ins to Twitter, Facebook, and Foursquare, which is a nice touch, especially if you're already using one of these services and don't want to water down your digital foot print. The app also keeps a history of your check-ins do you can see just how much beer you've been consuming. Other notable features include the ability to create a wish list of beers, perfect for planning future drinking sessions, and the virtual "toast" feature, a virtual "cheers" for when you're not drinking in the same location as your friends.
