NQ Mobile Vault for Windows Phone 8 is an app that provides a secure, pin-protected, place for storing personal photo and videos. Content can be created in the app itself using the Vault Camera feature, or imported from the Windows Phone Photo Hub via the standard photo picker. In the latter case you will need to later manually delete any imported content from the Photo Hub if you wish to have it hidden from public view.

Notable features of the app include Secure Camera (disguise the Vault as simple camera so that people don't even release there is hidden content on the phone), Break-In Attempts (keeps track of failed pin entries and, optionally, takes a photo using the front facing camera when an incorrect pin is entered), and Fake Vault (decoy vault to protect the real one, which is triggered when entering a "fake" pin number).

NQ Mobile is well known for their security software for other mobile platforms (e.g. NQ Mobile Security and NQ Mobile Guard). The company's NQ Mobile Security app is popular on Android as a way of combating spyware, trojans, and other malware that can sometime be inadvertently installed by rogue third party apps. The Android version of the app also includes an SMS and call blocker, a find your phone tracking feature, network manager, and a data backup and restore feature.

NQ Mobile Security was made available on Windows Phone earlier this year, albeit with a more limited features set (antivirus scanning, contact backup, secure browser, and security advisor). However, Windows Phone's security model and the limited access to the file system provided by the platform's API, make the core anti-virus feature largely pointless. For example, because of API restructions, the anti-virus scanning component of the app is only able to scan media files (i.e. photos and videos), which isn't where you would find malware, even if it did exist for the platform in the first place. That said, some of the extras, such as cloud backup of contact, may appeal to some users.

NQ Mobile Vault on Windows Phone is arguably more useful app and it is certainly one of the more feature rich of the hide-my-photos-and-video apps available in the Windows Phone Store.
