Amazon Mobile gets a face lift

Published by at

Good to see that everyone's favourite online store just got itself a Windows Phone client update, with a facelift giving a clearer layout and better provision for higher resolution images. There's a 'Lightning Deals' page too, though this remained blank in our tests. Some screens below, along with the store link.

Here's the changelog for this update:

  • Extended screen sizes show more information on each page and high screen resolutions provide clearer product images.
  • Refresh the Lightning Deals page any time to see the latest deals.
  • Bug fixes and performance improvements.

And here's Amazon Mobile in action:

The new facelift is very 'white', with plenty of empty space. Not good for AMOLED screens, but most Windows Phones have LCD now, so probably not an issue.

Although shown at smaller size on the page here, images are nice and clear on the HD screens of the likes of the Nokia Lumia 920 here.

The interface is side-scrolling, mimicking the Windows Phone design language, though in places the app breaks with convention, as in accessing the 'More' menu shown above, right.

'Lightning Deals' produced a blank page for us, though possibly this is something that's being rolled out region by region on the mobile application.

Overall, I love that Amazon is almost as useful on the phone now as it is on the desktop. In fact, you could even argue that it's more useful, since you can buy from anywhere. Of course, this could also work out more expensive.....
