Third party RunKeeper client Caledos updated for WP7 and WP8

Published by at

Caledos have updated their Caledos Runner sports and activity app for Windows Phone to version 2.4. The new version features a new activity User Interface, improved GPS accuracy, and a number of bug fixes. Windows Phone 7 users also continue to be supported, with an update to version 1.5.0.2 providing bug fixes and stability improvement.

Caledos Runner, which is one of a number of fitness trackers available for Windows Phone, ties into the online service RunKeeper, using the Healthgraph API. Although Caledos Runner is a third party client the user experience it offers is first class and it feels like an official app. There's support for background GPS tracking and fast resume (Windows Phone 8 only), live tracking thats lets you broadcast your activity to your friends through RunKeeper (also know as real-time export), automatic pause (detects pauses and automatically saves data to RunKeeper), and excellent Live Tile support (statistics and activity info is shown on the Live Tile).

Intriguingly, RunKeeper did once have an official app for Windows Phone, but withdrew it just under a year ago citing a lack of user interest. It's open to debate as to whether that was the right call, but what we can say is that Caledos Runner is superior to the original official app and that as of March 14th it had been downloaded more than 50,000 people, with 40,000 of those downloads coming in the preceding three months.
