Nokia updates Lumia 928 teaser page with video capture comparison

Nokia has updated the teaser page, on it US website, for the upcoming Nokia Lumia 928. There's now a clearer picture of the device itself, showing a handset that has a different (and thinner) design to its high end Lumia predecessors, and a comparison video, shot on a rollercoaster, showcasing the superior video capture performance of the Lumia device, when compared to the Galaxy SIII and iPhone 5.

The updated page also provides solid confirmation on the basic camera details, with a mention for the "8.7MP PureView camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Optical Image Stabilization", which is exactly the same as the camera module found in the Nokia Lumia 920. However, it is worth noting that other leaked images and rumours suggest the Lumia 928 will include a Xenon flash, a substantial point of differentiation from its sister device.

The handset pictured on the Lumia 928 teaser page appears to be thinner than the Nokia Lumia 920, although there's no way of being certain without a direct comparison. There pictures shows that there are black and white variants of the device (other colours remain possible, but unconfirmed) and that the Lumia 928 has a substantially different design to the Nokia 920, with less rounded edges and a blockier profile, a different case fitting (less wrap around on the front of the device), and a reworked layout for the 3.5mm audio jack, SIM card slot, and microUSB port (all located on the top of the device).

Comparison video

The comparison video offers an example of Lumia 928 video capture in low light conditions. It then compares the video capture with that produced from the Galaxy SIII and iPhone 5. The latter two device should noe be considered last generation, although there's only a small difference in video capture performance compared to the current generation of the devices (the camera modules remain much the same in terms of specifications).

The video highlights the Lumia 928's sharper focus, more accurate colours, and less jerky capture. Do remember that this is a manufacturer produced video, which will, quite understandably, play up those parts of the comparison that favour their own device.

The next Nokia Lumia is coming and we are excited to unveil it soon. In the meantime, enjoy a preview of what's in store.

We took the new Nokia Lumia to Adventureland in Farmingdale, New York and strapped it to the front row of a rollercoaster called "The Hurricane." It's 60ft high and has an inverted loop, so we thought we would capture some video footage alongside the Samsung Galaxy S III as well as the iPhone 5. Which phone takes better video on this shake-filled and low-lit ride? You decide.
