Nokia latest Lumia exclusive app release is Man of Steel, a film tie in app for the upcoming Warner Brothers' Superman film, which is being released in the middle of June. The app has the expected movie info (videos & photos, locations, cast, social media buzz) and countdown features, but more interesting are the playable challenges that unlock additional content and the photo competition that gives you an opportunity to win tickets to the premier.

The unlockable content available in the app includes wallpapers, ringtones and DC comic books. Content is unlocked by working through a number of challenges over four chapters, each of which is based in a different location drawn from the film. In a clever tie in with HERE Maps the challenges in each chapter are accessed by tapping on an icon on a map drawn from Nokia's location service, enhancing the feel of working through a series of missions. 

The challenges in each chapter range from the simple sharing of content (e.g. send your friend a promotional still image from the film) to the playing of mini-games. One mini-game sees you flying Superman through a series of rings suspended in the air (using tilt controls), while another sees you destroying objects, in an augmented reality setting, using Superman's heat vision or super strength.

On completing each challenge another piece of content is unlocked and becomes accessible through the apps' main panorama view. There's a good selection of wallpapers and ringtones, but the real highlight is the DC comic books. Some effort is required to unlock all the content, as the level get harder as you progress to each chapter, but everything should be well within reach of the dedicated Kal-El fan.
