Tumblr picks up another update of bug-fixes and tweaks

The official Tumblr client for Windows Phone has picked up another small update in the last week. Allowing you to read and interact with Tumblr sites, as well as post to, and manage your own sites, the small version jump from the release at the end of last month to 1.0.0.7 over does not offer any major feature changes, but does include a number of smaller bug fixes and changes, offering an improved overall user experience.

 Tumblr Tumblr

The main features of the application are still...

  • Find and follow the things you love
  • Share photos, gifs, video, quotes, chats, links, and text
  • Jump between your dashboard and Explore with just one swipe
  • Display the latest images from your dashboard on your lock screen and live tile - GIFs play as you scroll

After this update, the app is a little more stable, and it's good to see that the team are keeping on top of the bugs. There's still plenty of room for improvement. For example, we would like to see improved platform integration, with the app enabling Windows Phone's sharing controls and making itself available as a destination for photos (i.e. having a share to Tumblr option in the Photo Hub).

However, Tumblr is being updated. Unlike some of the other social network clients, bugs are being caught, and fixes are being uploaded to the Windows Store in a timely fashion, which is great to see and speaks well for the health of the platform.

Do bear in mind that Tumblr is a very media rich environment, most notably the abundance of animated GIFs, so your data use with the app can be surprisingly high. Anyone on a limited data plan should consider using the app with care, or wait until a WiFi connection is available.

Tumblr is available as a free download from the Windows Store.
