EA's Tiger Woods franchise dates back over 10 years under this name and around 25 under the original 'PGA Tour' name, and it shows with this, the release of a seemingly very mature golf simulation on Windows Phone, in the form of Tiger Woods 12, initially exclusively for Nokia's Lumia devices. The interface and game-play are very familiar, but this is a good thing, I'm something of a computer golf addict and I'm impressed.

In contrast to Let's Golf 2, which we reviewed last year, Tiger Woods 12 is very much the computer golf fan's game. You'll have to master the same skills as you'd need on a real course, albeit from the relative comfort on your smartphone.

Well have a full review of the game shortly, but in the meantime here's a quick walk through of the introductory gameplay:

Not PGA Tour 13, but hey, it's EA's golf flagship and it's on Windows Phone, time to break out the bubbly....

There's the usual complete control over your avatar's appearance (plus a female option too)....

As you progress in the game and start winning things and earning money, you can start upgrading your golfer's power and control... In theory, a decent game progression.

Tutorial screens pop up on your first holes, or can be viewed/tried at any time from the main menu.

The swing mechanic is via the tried and tested, swipe down and up system, which gives a good feel for striking a golf ball. Note that the actual shot is then played once the main view is restored, using TV-style footage. Which I'm happy with.

The putting 'contours' are very subtle, but are there and will stand out more on greens which are less 'flat'! A caddy tip/view shows where a 100% perfect putt might end up....

There are Xbox Live achievements sprinkled throughout - I'll be trying for all of these in my full review, coming soon to AAWP!

The Lumia exclusive game is available for both Windows Phone 7.5 (512MB devices only) and Windows Phone 8 (1GB RAM devices only) and costs £1.99 / $2.99 / €2.99. The game weighs in at 225MB in size, which means you will need to download it over WiFi, and will temporarily require around 1GB of internal memory and (permanently) around half a Gigabyte for a successful install.
