'Countdown' offers more Windows Phone integration in latest update

My favourite 'countdown' live tile app, simply called 'Countdown', has picked up a really nice update, which adds in some smart features and makes better use of many Windows Phone UI elements.

Countdown now allows you to add a background image for each event as an aide memoire, and you can show the next event in the textual information space on your lock screen. I also like that 'theme colour' is now an option when setting up an event.

From the change log, the major revisions are:

  • Skydrive backup and restore.
  • Time can be defined to the second
  • Create repeating events (daily, weekly, yearly)
  • Sort events alphabeticaly as well as due time
  • Import events from your Calenday
  • Count up towards a date, and time since that date.

I know everyone says that Windows Phone lacks customisation - and when you look at the hyperactive choices Android users can make you have to agree. But customising is also about information and subtle changes. Countdown tile, along with utilities like Header Tiles and Scroll Tiles, and you can bring the information and a personal touch to your home screen. That's more than enough for me.
