Steam is a distribution platform for games on Windows OS (with gaming clients also available for Linux and OS X). Much like Xbox Live, everyone has an online profile, and can share, communicate, challenge, and be social with other players.
While Steam fans with Windows Phone have official chat clients available for iOS and Android handsets, as yet there's no options from Steam for Microsoft's mobile, so Andrew Pearce's client should allow Steam fans to stay in touch when mobile.
The client, which does have a free trial available, has the following features:
- Chat to your friends on Steam.
- See what games your friends are currently playing.
- Receive push notifications when a message is received.
- Add/block friends.
- Set Steam name
- Take/attach photos to your conversations.
Unlike the other major Steam client for Windows Phone (DG-InfoTech's Steam Center), Steam Chat is just for the chatting and social conversations in the Steam world. Steam Center is still best suited to checking leaderboards, browsing the Steam store, and getting the latest news. The one area it doesn't cover is chat, so there's a nice synergy at work here.
The Steam Chat client is $1.49/£1.29 and available via the AAWP app directory.
