Music streaming service Deezer has released a major new version of its Window Phone client app, with a new look user interface, improved music discovery, and improved performance. Deezer has moved towards a design that favours the principles of Modern UI, over that of the standard look and feel, but as with all the best Modern UI apps, it manages to maintain a distinctive character tied to the Deezer branding and style.

Deezer competes directly with Spotify, Xbox Music and other premium music subscription based services, but can also be seen as a competitor for the radio-type streaming music services, such as Nokia Music and Pandora. One of the company's key strategic initiatives has been to partners with operators, allowing it to bundling its music service with operators contracts, in order to lower acquisition costs and create sustainable margins.

For example, in the UK Deezer is partnered with Orange, with various streaming music service options available, including the option to choose a Deezer Mobile subscription as one of the free "Swappables" on the Orange Panther Plan. Other operator partners include Deutsche Telekom and Telenor.

The Deezer service offers access to more than 25 million tracks, and offers a range of features to improve the mobile experience, including support for offline listening and hand picked choices from the Deezer editors. With the top level offering (Deezer Premium), there also support cross device play, with Deezer clients available on the web, PC, tablet, and phone.

There are three levels of Deezer service: Siscovery, Premium, and Premium+. You'll need a Premium+ subscription, which cost £9.99 a month, to use Deezer on mobile, but you can try out the service for free using the Discovery level via  PC or web browser.

On Windows Phone there's good Live Tile support, with the primay tile showing "what;s new" on Deezer, while secondary tiles can be used to provide quick access to your favourite music.
